Your guide to the perfect riverside family escape
Planning a family getaway to BIG4 Karuah Jetty? We have taken the guesswork out of your holiday with this curated three-day itinerary. From afternoon fishing sessions on our private jetty to exploring the wildlife of Port Stephens, here is how to make the most of your stay at our 28-acre riverside retreat.
Day 1 - Riverside relaxation and park fun
Afternoon - Arrival and Splash Play
Check into your family accommodation or set up your caravan and camping site and head straight for the resort-style swimming pool. Let the kids burn off some energy in the splash play area and settle in to the relaxed park atmosphere.
Afternoon - Jetty Fishing and Jumping Pillow
Grab your fishing gear and head to our private 250-metre-long jetty. It is the perfect spot for the kids to catch their first flathead. Follow it up with a session on the 20-metre long jumping pillow before the sun goes down.
Evening - Camp Kitchen BBQ
Fire up the BBQs in one of our BBQ areas. It is the best place to meet fellow travellers while the kids enjoy an outdoor movie (during school holidays) or a game in the children's playground.
Day 2 - Wildlife encounters and local flavours
Morning - Coffee Van and Animals
Start your day with a barista-made coffee from our weekend coffee van (or weekdays from our local bakery). Then, take a short 20-minute drive to Oakvale Wildlife Park or Port Stephens Animal Adventures for an unforgettable hands-on animal experience.
Afternoon - Oysters and River Walks
Head into the historic Karuah town centre to visit the local seafood shop. While the oyster farms are a part of our history, you can still pick up fresh, local seafood to enjoy back at the park. Take a leisurely stroll across the bridge or let the kids ride their pedal go-karts around the park’s safe internal roads.
Evening - RSL Courtesy Bus
Take a night off from cooking! Board the Karuah RSL courtesy bus for a stress-free family dinner. It is a local favourite and only minutes away from the park.
Day 3 - Beach days and dolphin spotting
Morning - Nelson Bay Adventures
Wake up early to witness a spectacular sunrise over our private 250-metre-long jetty. It is the most peaceful time of day to enjoy the views across the Karuah River before heading off for a morning of sand and surf at the Hawks Nest and Tea Gardens beaches.
Afternoon - Riverside Picnic
Return to the quiet of Karuah for a picnic by the river at Longworth Park. Enjoy one last walk along the jetty to spot some local birdlife before heading back to the park for a final swim.
Evening - Sunset by the Jetty
End your holiday where it began. Watch the sunset over the park from the end of the jetty - the perfect backdrop for your final family holiday photos.
