Best dog-friendly beaches and parks in Port Stephens
While our park offers plenty of space, we know dogs love the chance to run free! Here are the best off-leash and dog-friendly spots within a short drive of the park:
- Connelly Park (Karuah Off-Lead Dog Exercise Area, Johnson Ave) - Located just minutes from the park, this is a great local spot for a run.
- Bennetts Beach (Hawks Nest) - Dogs are welcome off-leash on the section of the beach stretching 3.8km north from Sanderling Avenue. It is a spectacular spot for a long run on the sand (dawn till dusk).
- Bagnalls Beach Reserve (located between Nelson Bay and Corlette) - A dedicated off-leash dog beach with calm waters, perfect for a swim.
- Birubi Beach (Anna Bay) - Dogs are permitted on-lead in specific areas, offering spectacular views of the sand dunes.

- Tea Gardens Boatshed (Tea Gardens) - A beautiful 20-minute drive from the park, this café sits right on the Myall River. Dogs are welcome on the covered outdoor deck.
- Cheeky Dog (Soldiers Point) - Living up to its name, this is one of the most dog-friendly venues in the region with dogs welcome in the massive outdoor beer garden.
- The Little Nel (Nelson Bay) - If you are heading into the bay for the day, this café has a dedicated dog-friendly outdoor terrace at the front. Book in advance on weekends and mention you have a dog.
Dog etiquette and local tips
To ensure all our guests - both two-legged and four-legged - have a wonderful stay, we ask that you follow our simple park etiquette:
- Keep the lead on - Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times while within the park grounds and when exploring the local area.
- Respect the 'no-go' zones - For health and safety reasons, dogs are not permitted in the resort swimming pool area, the splash play area, or on our private 250-metre-long jetty.
- Clean up after your pup - Please always pick up after your dog and dispose of waste in the provided bins.
- Consider your neighbours - Be mindful of barking, especially during our quiet hours between 10.00 pm and 7.00 am.
